          | Hi all!
Now I found the file which made some problems to start beryl.

After overwriting in home-folder ~/.kde/shared/config/ file kwinrc with the one from a new user, beryl looks very fine

 Maybe it's "Translucency" making trouble...

 wegface hat folgendes geschrieben::
I did find it was i had destop icons swiched off. Turned them back on in kcontrol AND restarted x/kde and then beryl plays nice. I'm sure someone did mention this a while back but i didnt restart kde or x to confirm this worked. This obviously may not be your problem but worth a try.
Sorry wegface, that was already swiched on

 Yours
 Andreas.

          | hello arohrmann, its possible you can post your kwinrc, which work with beryl?
On my desktop beryl starts fine, but in every window I start the window is black, and black fonts on black backround is very bad to read!

Just tried to install beryl today with the entry above in my sources.list, but there seems to be no package beryl.

Has anyone had the same problem when trying to install beryl today?

 Ok , now it works.
Beryl and beryl related packges get installed, but when i start beryl-manager , a get a blank-screen then the nvidia-logo (beta-driver) and then a get the kde-login screen.
When I login there is no beryl-icon and nothing seems to have changed.
I tried this several times, always same result, what went wrong?

          | I've been running xgl/compiz for a few days which I installed via the install-compiz.sh script and it's been working well but I've been using beryl in suse and it has more features and options so I just upgraded to beryl on kanotix but I'm having a few problems.
I followed the instructions here and installed beryl and emerald then reinstalled the nvidia beta driver and running "beryl-manager" put the icon in my tray but didn't autmatically start the window manager so I closed it and tried running "beryl". This displayed the splash and started up beryl and fully so I added it to my .kde/Autostart.
I rebooted and it was working ok and autostarted.
However, after my next reboot I was left at the login prompt and there was no login screen. I typed startx and it went into kde but beryl started up and there were no window decorations.
At this point various compinations of "beryl" "beryl-manager && beryl" are starting it up but every other time it fails and I get this message
 Code:
Initiating splash
sh: line 5: gdb: command not found

 [CRASH_HANDLER]: "/tmp/beryl_crash-3555.out" created!

** (beryl-manager:3495): WARNING **: Couldn't find a Selection Owner, perhaps no WM running?
Otherwise, manually kill your wm, and report the bug to the developers, it doesn't follow the standards.
Falling back to looking for a defined WM in xlsclients

My more major concern is that X won't start automatically. There are no errors in /var/log/X.0.log

          | Ok I removed all the beryl and emerald stuff and reinstalled them then reinstalled nvidia-beta. Now kdm starts up but when I run beryl I just get the white screen thing and no desktop and when I run beryl-manager I get this
 Code:
**(beryl-manager:8159): WARNING **: Couldn't find a Selection Owner, perhaps no WM running?
Aargh! It's driving me mad, it was running so perfectly before. I also remove all the kwin config files in .kde.

          | It's ok, I worked it out. I needed to run install-compiz.sh with the -u flag to uninstall it then install beryl again and I just added an entry for bery-manager in .kde/autostart and it all works perfectly. |
