Does this mean that we can use that cool bootsplash from the 2005-04 livecd? (the one with the walking penguins)? |

Watch out for this bootsplash business. If you have previously tried to install bootsplash debs from bootsplash.de you may get to experience some dpkg fun. The bootsplash pkgs from bootsplash.de were broken and create some issue that cause a problem everytime you try to install bootsplash after that. Bootsplash will refuse to be installed or removed and apt-get -f install will not fix this one. I do not know what causes this error exactly but I do know how to fix it.
Code:
mcedit /var/lib/dpkg/info/bootsplash.prerm
Now after this part of the file:
Code:
set -e
Add this:
Code:
exit 0
Save the file then:
Code:
dpkg -P bootsplash
If anyone knows what it is that creates this PITA please post! |

mzilikazi, I remember. That's what I meant when I said "First time I have installed it for in a long time without any troubles"
You and remember the horrid experiences with that.
The one in unstable installs flawlessly though. |

Hi jackiebrown. I wonder though......are you still on the same Kanotix install or have you since reinstalled? All of my installs have been on for quite some time. ( > 1 year). I only tried the bootsplash on one box but the problem persists. I'd love to figure out what those bootsplash.de pkgs did to my box to make bootsplash such a PITA. Unfortunately I have no idea and bootsplash just doesn't warrant enough of my time to figure it out. |

Well initramfs-tools is in the Debian unstable repo so there should be no problems there. Try specifying it on the cli:
Code:
apt-get install bootsplash initramfs-tools
Sometimes apt just needs a kick in the right direction. |

Well busybox is also in standard debian repos. I think your sources.list needs a repo added.
Code:
$ apt-cache policy busybox
busybox:
Installed: 1:1.1.3-1
Candidate: 1:1.1.3-1
Version table:
*** 1:1.1.3-1 0
500 http://ftp.us.debian.org unstable/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
1:1.01-4 0
200 http://ftp.us.debian.org testing/main Packages

Has anyone tried using that install-bootsplash-acritox.sh script? It's supposed to do things for you I believe. |

apt-get install busybox
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
The following packages will be REMOVED:
busybox-kanotix kanotix-terminalserver
The following NEW packages will be installed:
busybox
0 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 2 to remove and 3 not upgraded.
Need to get 288kB of archives.
After unpacking 594kB disk space will be freed.
Do you want to continue [Y/n]? No i dont!!
I used the install-bootsplash-acritox.sh script a month or so ago and all was fine then. |
