          | What is proper text-based command and directory/file to save iptable firewall rules to inside of the terminal in Kanotix v2007.RC6B? Am not a huge fan of text-based command lines over GUI's, but don't want to use GUI like Guard dog for 3 reasons: 1. Don't want to download it for fear of getting virus, worm or trojan horse, or other failure.
 2. It didn' t come with my Kanotix Distro, so it is simply not in there.
 3. When I configure firewall via command line, I can see exactly what the input and output chains are supposed to do, and not imagine some vague level of security that I have no idea if it will work or not.
When I have configured the iptable rules in the past, I tried saving them to /etc/sysconfig/iptables like I learned from Fedora Core 1, where it worked perfectly. This also appears to work in Kanotix initially, but on first reboot, have lost everthing, including 12-20 minutes of typing.
In addition to failure of save command, also need to run a start script so it will fire up at boot-time. As root, I used to type in /etc/init.d/iptables start. This also fails in Kanotix, possibly because the rules were not saved in the first place.
 What am I doing wrong?
