Glad to see you guys back.
this is the first distro which handles dialup and the lan easily. i.e. can switch between the two without a reboot.
is there any where which states your goals for the future
1) What is the best way to update?
2) how do i stop large programs like open office from updating

Kano seems to be preparing a final release. Beyond that, I don't know.

What's your current installation of Kanotix?

You could remove them, if you don't need them. Or put them on hold. This may work for a while, but you won't get security fixes for these apps. |

I have RC6 and I also want to know how to update.
Is it enough to do a kernelupdate and d-u? |

Thats not enough, you shall update Kernel also and after that you have to reinstall your graphic drivers if you use nvidia or ati drivers. |

For the nvidia driver, just download from nvidia's web site and follow the instructions for install. |

Usually you use:
update-scripts-kanotix.sh
install-nvidia-debian.sh
or for ati cards:
install-fgrlx-debian.sh
instead (last script is updated to 8-02). |

for hotfixes - maybe needed- this is the code:
Kano hat folgendes geschrieben::
Nein, musst nicht zwingend installieren, kannst 2 hotfixes anwenden:
sed -i 's/\([1-6]:23\):/\145:/' /etc/inittab
sed -i 's/^[^#]\(\S\)/#\1/' /etc/inetd.conf
und
apt-get install hal-info-ntfs-3g
(für usb ntfs schreibzugriff)
auch hinkriegen.
