          | Hello....I am still wondering about this. On rare occasions I like to use wireless with my laptop. It worked PERFECTLY with Kanotix 2005-4......but when I changed over to the latest Easter release I cannot get it to work at all. Is this a characteristic of the Easter version? I like the Easter version for the ease of installing certain *media programs* among other things. Its a great release but I still have NO wireless!
I am tempted to go back to 2005-4 but I have my system set up nicely.
Does anyone have an answer if this is just the way this version behaves? Like I said, I had wireless working fine with 2005-4......I know I should post my data, like the wireless card name, etc. But what is the difference in the Easter version and 2005-4 where wireless is not easily set up to work? I will post my wireless card data here if I need to.....I have tried all the suggestions posted by others last time I played around with it.
Should I use ndiswrapper? I have no clue how to do that.....HELP!!!!

          | Here is my card data:
I have a Hawking Technologies wireless pcmcia card. It was recognized as RA0 with Kanotix 2005-4. It uses ra2400 chipset so it was pretty easy to configure. Whan I tried configuring the card with the Easter edition it seemed to recognize the card as "eth1" not "ra0" like before. But I could not get a link or signal....I used the common commands from a post by KANO. But that did not work. The card works OK when I boot into Winxp so I know the card is fine.
I ran netcardconfig.....then kwifi manager but still could not get a signal from wireless router. I know there are other command I will need to try and post results here. Hopefully this helps somewhat.....

          | I found this response to one of my earlier posts from a while ago.....

 su
 ifconfig eth1 up
then run netcardconfig from kanotix menu, dhcp yes if you use it, or get the Cebit ed. it works without ndiswrapper (Easter ed. uses a smp kernel which does not support the ralink RT 2500 properly, for that you need the 2.6.19.9 slh-up-1 kernel) Gruss UB

From what this tells me is the Easter release is not compatible with my card......I can get a compatible card if I need to...they are cheap enough. any ideas on this post?

 IFCONFIG ETH1 UP......nothing happens.

It seems to be there, as I high lighted in RED above. When I used the card in Kanotix 2005-4, the card was recognized as "ra0"......now it is "eth1".....
The card uses a "ralink RT2500 chip".

          | Just download an -up kernel or use ndiswrapper. |

          | It might be easier just to try to use ndiswrapper but could someone give me a little help with that? I know that there are 2 windows files that need to be copied into Kanotix. But I need more clearer detailed help. I will search the forum for help first. Also I have never installed or replaced a kernel before so maybe I should try to learn that. What is a "-up kernel?" So this wireless with the rt2500 chipset and easter edition is a kernel issue? OK....

          | You need a newer version of ndiswrapper than it is on Easter RC4 for rt2500. |
