hey,
i have an older system w/sb16 isa card sound card works in m$ and other distros. trying to get it to work w/kanotix. first alsaconf would not see card, then i changed bios to pnp aware o.s., and now it sees it and tries to set it up. it finds it, goes to load the modules and change the amixer settings and then i get:
running update-modules
loading driver
FATAL: Error inserting snd_sb16 (/lib/modules/2.6.14-kanotix-9/kernel/sound/isa/sb/snd-sb16.ko): No such device
FATAL: Error running install command for snd_sb16
what gives? how can i solve this....??????

hey,
well i seem to have solved the problem.....
seems for wome reason, i had to enter "modprobe snd-sb16" (no quotes) before using alsaconf
this caused the card to work-it was causing irq problems w/the mouse, so i changed the bios BACK to non-pnp o.s. and now it is working fine....
now its off to install codecs...
