          | is there such a thing? my printer is a canon pixma ip1000. printing with it works fine under kanotix, but i still have to reboot to windows to clean and/or align the print heads. this is probably the biggest reason why Windows XP is still on my hard drive. |

          | isn't it possible to clean the print heads via the buttons on the printer, when you push them in a special "code". to align the print heads is bit more difficult. look at the canon website if there are extra diver for your printer. my canon i250 works fine and has also a status monitor and maintenance utilities with the driver provided by canon. perhaps there are only rpmpackages. just do alien *.rpm
int the directory where you downloaded them
 then dpkg -i *.deb
 then apt-get install -f
