Hi,

I was able to bott Kanotix on 1994 hardware, 233 MHz Pentium, 128 kb RAM, S3 Virge videao and CreativeLabs CD-ROM/sound, but I was not able to interact with the KMenus. I was able to boot the same PC using Knoppix 3.0+ b4 the DVD release, did have some issues with serial mouse using Knopix, but not with Kanotix. After booting, I got the KDesktop crash handler, after rm /tmp/.X0-lock and startx, I got all the iconsl, but could not interact with KMenu items (no response). My goal was ultimately to launch dial-up KPPP and to connect with the forums to solve and smooth out any of the kinx. I got about 2/3 of the way. I guess the machine is just too old for the modern KDesktop. On 1.6 GHz centrino I am booting fromiso in less than 50 seconds, it is a real show stopper!

Reagards,

kadee

The minium RAM requirement for KDE is 192 MB RAM. You can try

desktop=icewm

Option. You hardware is out of spec, buy RAM for use with KDE without swap partition.
