Software - How do I edit sound files? dw5437 - 03.01.2007, 17:29 Uhr Titel: How do I edit sound files?
I was attempting to use the guide Alsa Multi-channel Audio mini-HOWTO to change my stereo sound to 5.1 channel surround sound. The 1st step mentioned is to edit ~/.asoundrc file.
When I command line gedit ~/.soundrc I get an error gedit ~/.asoundrc
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified
cannot open display: (null)
Run 'gedit --help' to see a full list of available command line options.
What is going on ? Any help appreciated.

are you in root? try sux

files in ~/ should not need root to be edited. ~ refers to your current users home-directory. so if it is not root's home it is not needed to be root.

true. but that is the cause of the error.
