Titel: Had ndiswrapper working ok. tried linuxant driver better but
Ok this is the problem,

I had ndiswrapper working ok but weak wireless compared to XP.

Thought i'd try the linuxant as I still have a registration for my machine.

Stronger wireless ok. Wireless working ok.

But when I reboot after removing ndiswrapper using apt-get now it hangs

at the booting where ndiswrapper loads. How can I stop this happening,

can't access my kanotix at all now.

can I disable ndiswrapper from the boot prompt?

Any help greatly appreciated.

From the live CD, you should be able to access your root partition

Add
blacklist ndiswrapper
to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist (as root)

Thanks Mike,

Will give that a go. I tried the Broadcom driver but too unstable for me.

Note that the Broadcom native driver is a lot more stable with a new kernel -- I think 2.6.18 really helps

>=2.6.18.2 specifically, 2.6.18 and 2.6.18.1 had a few serious stability issues.

Maybe time to try the native again I think only B not G and not sure on WPA support.

Anything special to get the native driver working, I am using latest 2.6.18.2 kernel. Noticed it is currently in my blacklisted modules.

Be great to get similar wireless performance as I can with that other operating system. I use linux 90+% of the time at home. I actually use vmware to run my needed windows programs. Works great for the small number I use.

Thanks for everyones's help, have the Broadcom driver running with good strength if only B not G. WPA working ok too. Best signal so far 67% strength 100% quality according to the KDE toolbar applet

The signal strength reading for native bcm43xx is bogus until kernel 2.6.20 (fixed value), patches for that have recently been merged to wireless-dev, but it is correct that neither signal strength nor link speed completely match the expected values (I'm told that ndiswrapper woks better in that regard, but I never tested it with ndiswrapper).
That said, native bcm43xx is progressing quite well and is imho usable at its current state.

THis was for the native driver not niswrapper ndiswrapper for me did not report any where near 100%.

That said I now have stable wireless on my Dell 9100 equal to what I had on XP.

Seems spoke too soon back with ndiswrapper the native one kept dropping out intermitently.
