1) when i install a program i can not run it.
it is a *.deb package which I installed with dpkg -i k*.deb it was the only one starting with k
it install ok and even shows up in synaptic now it is installed
the error i get when i try to run it is
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 key
konverter: cannot connect to X server :0.0
2) when using synaptic it keeps telling me that it needs to remove these packages
cupsconfig-kanotix
hplip
kdelibsbin
python-qt3
the last one i looked at installing was kpackage ( not the deb from above)
are these old and will removing them break kano?
any help would be appreciated
p.s. I am using easter rc4

Please don't run ordinary applications from a root shell, if that is really necessary (it isn't in 95% of all cases) for administrative tasks use "sux" instead of "su".
At least kdelibsbin is obsolete and python-qt3 probably without and real value for sour uses, I'd accept apt removing all of your mentioned packages and reinstall just hplip (only in case you're using a Hewlett-Packard scanner or printer).
