Swap-File anlegen


Kanotix bootest Du im Grub-Menü mit "2 noswap".
Dann gibst Du folgendes in einer Konsole eingeben (im Beispiel ist Platz auf hda5? frei):
mount /dev/hda5 /mnt/hda5
dd if=/dev/zero of=/mnt/hda5/knoppix.swp bs=1M count=256
mkswap /mnt/hda5/knoppix.swp
swapon /mnt/hda5/knoppix.swp


Dies muß man nur einmal machen, danach werden vorhandene Swapfiles automatisch gefunden.


Bestehendes (Win)Swapfile benutzen


Manche haben ein permanentes Swapfile unter Windows eingerichtet. Das kann prima für alle Knoppix-Derivate verwendet werden.
Warum (kostbaren) Platz verschwenden? Windows funktioniert beim nächsten Reboot tadellos weiter...
mount /dev/hda1
mkswap /mnt/hda1/win386.swp
echo >>/etc/fstab "#add new swapfiles"
echo >>/etc/fstab "/mnt/hda1/win386.swp swap swap noauto 0 0"
swapon -a


Swaps überprüfen


Ob genügend bzw. wieviel überhaupt an Swap-Space ge- und benutzt wird, findest Du so heraus:
cat /proc/swaps
