Titel: Floppies automount: FAT32 as the default filesystem  BeitragVerfasst am: 24.10.2006, 23:06 Uhr

Hi everybody,
making some tests with Kanotix 2005.4, I've noticed that it doesn't succeed in mounting standard floppies (I mean that I've never reformatted them after having bought them).
Looking at the /etc/fstab file, I've remarked that the filesystem chosen for a floppy is "auto".
After having changed this row of the /etc/fstab file in such a way that the default filesystem for a floppy is "vfat", I was able to access the content of the floppies.
Let me recall that also in Kanotix 2005.3 the default filesystem chosen for a floppy was "vfat" and I never had this kind of problems with Kanotix 2005.3.

Therefore, I suggest to come back to the way of handling the files as it was in Kanotix 2005.3.
Otherwise, it would be better to change something so that the "automatic detection" of the filesystem on a floppy really works.

Thanks,
ciao,
Ugo

P.S. I also think that people having reformatted their floppies with a filesystem different from FAT32 are usually skilled enough to mount them manually.
